Profile Language

Setup and implementation of members preferred language

Path: Profile >> Settings >> Profile Information >> Language

What is Profile Language?
Profile Language is a personal setting that lets a registered Member choose the language used for system prompts, menus, and other on-screen text throughout the workspace.

Profile Language determines the display language shown to a Member across their own view of the workspace, independent of the language other Members see. By default, this setting matches the Workspace language, but a Member can change it to a preferred language at any time from Profile Settings.

Exceptions

  1. Foreign Language Ideas: An idea submitted in a language different from a Member's Profile Language continues to display in the language it was submitted in; Profile Language does not translate idea content. Only if Translation is enabled for the community will the idea show in the Member's Profile Language, and a Show original link appears on the idea, allowing the originally submitted language version to be viewed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does changing a Profile Language affect how other Members view the workspace?

No. Profile Language is a personal setting. Changing it only affects the display language shown to the Member who set it, not the language other Members see.

What language does a Member's Profile Language default to?

By default, Profile Language is set to the same language as the Workspace language, until a Member changes it in Profile Settings.

Does Profile Language translate the text of submitted ideas?

No. Profile Language changes the display language of system prompts, menus, and other on-screen text. It does not translate the content of an idea submitted in a different language, unless Translation is separately enabled for the community.

Can an Administrator view Settings and other backend pages in their own Profile Language?

Yes. A Workspace Administrator or Community Administrator views Settings and other backend pages in their own Profile Language.
