What is Moderate Idea?
---
Moderate Idea is the set of actions available for managing an idea's content, visibility, and lifecycle from the Homepage, Moderator Dashboard, or Idea Management.
Moderate Idea allows editing, linking, deleting, disabling comments, changing the campaign, and changing the stage of an idea. The Inbound, Off Topic, and Recycle Bin stages can also be leveraged from here as the community's requirements dictate. These actions are accessed by selecting the More button on an idea; List View, Grid View, and Compact View each display this option, as does the Moderator Dashboard view.

Moderator Dashboard view:
Edit an Idea
Selecting Edit Idea from the dropdown opens the Idea Submission Form for that idea. After making changes, selecting Submit saves the update.
Delete an Idea
Selecting Delete Idea from the dropdown removes the idea from the active list.

Note: The idea is not deleted directly; it is moved to the Recycle Bin. From there, it can be deleted permanently from Idea Management or the Moderator Dashboard. See Exceptions below regarding permanent deletion.
Disable Commenting
Selecting Disable Commenting from the dropdown removes the option for members to submit new comments on that idea. Once disabled, no area for new comment submission is displayed on the idea.
Below is the screenshot after disabling commenting. No area for new comment submission will be available.
Change Campaign
Selecting Change Campaign from the dropdown allows moving an idea into a different campaign by selecting a campaign and, where applicable, a stage. See Exceptions below for when the stage selection does not appear..gif?width=670&height=331&name=Screen-Recording-2025-04-03-at-1%20(1).gif)
Note: 'And Stage' option will not appear if the idea is being moved to the campaign which resides in the same funnel as the current campaign.
Pin Idea to the Landing Page
This option is available only for communities that have a landing page. Selecting Pin Idea to the Landing Page from the dropdown displays that idea on the landing page.
Off Topic and Recycle Bin
- Off Topic: The status and label applied to an idea that is not relevant in the context of the community. The idea remains viewable and searchable but is excluded from the main idea lists (Popular, Recent, and similar views).
- Recycle Bin: A stage in which the idea is no longer considered part of the community and is hidden entirely from members.
Note: A standard user can still view an idea in the Off Topic or Recycle Bin stage if searched by the Idea Title or Idea Number.
Clone Idea
Clone Idea is available from the Moderator Dashboard or Idea Management only; it does not appear from the Homepage. Cloning an idea copies it to another community, campaign, and a specific stage within the new campaign.
Note: Cloning an idea cannot be done with multiple selections or in bulk.
Link Idea
Link Idea allows one idea to be linked to another based on relevance, using keywords drawn from the idea title and description to surface link results. This feature is available from the Moderator Dashboard and Idea Management; it is not available from the Homepage.
Ideas can be linked using the following relationship types: Similar to, Substantially equivalent to, Relates to, Is Part of, Contains, Supports, and Supported by.
Ideas to link are searched for in the Similar Ideas panel. Once linked, the relationship is displayed below the idea description.
Exceptions
- Permanent Deletion: Deleting an idea from the Recycle Bin is permanent. Once removed this way, the idea cannot be retrieved.
- Stage Selection on Campaign Change: The stage selection option does not appear when the destination campaign resides in the same funnel as the idea's current campaign.
- Visibility in Off Topic or Recycle Bin: A standard user can still locate an idea in either stage by searching for its exact Idea Title or Idea Number, even though the idea is otherwise excluded from general visibility.
- Bulk Cloning: Cloning an idea cannot be performed with multiple selections or in bulk; each clone is created one idea at a time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a deleted idea removed immediately?
No. Selecting Delete Idea moves the idea to the Recycle Bin rather than deleting it outright. Permanent removal only occurs when the idea is subsequently deleted from the Recycle Bin in Idea Management or the Moderator Dashboard, and that step cannot be undone.
Does changing an idea's campaign always require selecting a new stage?
No. The stage selection option is skipped when the destination campaign is in the same funnel as the idea's current campaign.
Can members still find an idea after it is moved to Off Topic or the Recycle Bin?
A standard user can locate the idea by searching for its exact Idea Title or Idea Number, even though it no longer appears in general idea listings.
Can Clone Idea be used on multiple ideas at once?
No. Clone Idea supports one idea at a time and cannot be performed with multiple selections or in bulk.
Where can Clone Idea and Link Idea be accessed from?
Both are available from the Moderator Dashboard and Idea Management. Neither is available from the Homepage.
