[Members](https://help.ideascale.com/member-management?hsLang=en#members) # Use cases for Member Approval ## Use cases for Member Approval Use cases for Member approval based on different permissions enabled. **Use Case 1 Workspace Member Approval = On** **Community Member Approval = On Member Self-Registration to Workspace**: -  Member registers and awaits Workspace admin approval. - Once approved, the member receives a verification email and a community invitation. - After verification, they become a Workspace member. -  If assigned to a group with auto-assignment criteria, they are automatically added to the group and associated community without needing Community admin approval. **Member Self-Registration to Public Community**: - Member registers via a Public community URL. - First, Workspace admin approval is required for Workspace access. - Then, Community admin approval is required for participation in the community. **Quick Add or Upload by Workspace Admin (without community assignment)**: - A member added by Workspace Admin gains Workspace access after email verification. - They can join available communities but need Community admin approval to participate. **Quick Add or Upload by Workspace Admin (with community assignment)**: - Member added with community assignment can participate directly in the community after email verification without needing Community admin approval.- \***Quick Add or Upload by Community Admin**\*: - A new non-Workspace member added by Community Admin requires Workspace admin approval before participating in the community and appearing under Community Member management. --- **Use Case 2** **Workspace Member Approval = On** **Community Member Approval = Off** **Member Self-Registration to Workspace**: - Member registers and awaits Workspace admin approval. - Once approved, they receive a verification email and community invitation. - After verification, they become a Workspace member and can join available communities. - If assigned to a group with auto-assignment criteria, they are automatically added to the group and associated community. **Member Self-Registration to Public Community**: - Member registers via a Public community URL. - Workspace admin approval is required for Workspace access. - The member can participate in the community immediately after approval. **Quick Add or Upload by Workspace Admin (without community assignment)**: - Member added by Workspace Admin gains Workspace access after email verification. - They can join available communities within the Workspace. **Quick Add or Upload by Workspace Admin (with community assignment)**: - Member is added to the community directly and can participate in the community after email verification. **Quick Add or Upload by Community Admin**: - A new non-Workspace member is added to the community by Community Admin. - Member doesnt need Workspace admin approval. - The member can now participate in the community and will appear under Community Member management. --- **Use Case 3** **Workspace Member Approval = Off** **Community Member Approval = On** **Member Self-Registration to Workspace**: - Member registers and receives a verification email. - Upon verification, they become a Workspace member. - If assigned to a group with auto-assignment criteria, they are automatically added to the group and associated community. - Community admin approval is not required. **Member Self-Registration to Public Community**: - Member registers via a Public community URL. - Gains Workspace access after verification but requires Community admin approval to participate in the community. **Quick Add or Upload by Workspace Admin (without community assignment)**: - Member is added by Workspace Admin - Gains Workspace access after email verification. - They can join available communities but need Community admin approval to participate. **Quick Add or Upload by Workspace Admin (with community assignment)**: -  Member is added with community assignment - They can participate directly in the community after email verification - Community admin approval is not required. **Quick Add or Upload by Community Admin**: - A new non-Workspace member is added to the community by Community Admin. - They are automatically added to the Workspace and can start participating in the community after email verification. --- **Use Case 4** **Workspace Member Approval = Off** **Community Member Approval = Off** - Member Approval is not required at any level. - Members can join all available communities and participate as soon as they verify their email addresses.
