Product Updates 11/27/24

November has been a big month of product updates and we have one more release for you before the holiday! Here is a list of items we're releasing this week and in the near future.

Updates to the Articles & Resources and Online Learning Community Widgets

We're updating the Articles & Resources and Online Learning widgets on the community level. Currently these widgets can be made visible by going to Edit Mode on the Community Home Page. With this change, the content of these widgets will remain the same, but they will be transitioned to custom widgets. This is an opportunity for users to add two additional custom widgets to their community sidebar if they aren't using the existing widget content.

Updating "Submit Idea" Prompts

In our effort to support our customers many diverse use cases, we're transitioning the "Submit Idea" language in our product to a more generic solution. On the landing pages, and various idea home pages, users will now see either "Submit" or "Submit Here". If any of these buttons have been customized using our language and strings features, those customized strings will remain in tact during this release.

Removing Social Web Sidebar Widget

We will be removing the "Social Web" widget from the campaign and community home sidebar. Previously this widget was accessible to add and remove through edit mode, but will not be an option moving forward. Any community that currently has this widget active will see it removed with the coming release.

Reducing Number of Tags Shown in Tile View

In an ongoing effort to improve the performance capabilities of our site, we're reducing the number of tags shown on each idea tile. Previously, all tags would be shown here, but we're reducing this to only two lines of tags. This should help improve loading times for the page and will also reduce clutter/stagger when viewing ideas in the grid view.

Update Auto-Subscription Behavior

We're adding some updates to notification subscriptions in IdeaScale. With the coming change, users will be more frequently auto-subscribed to ideas and campaigns to remain engaged with the content they interact with. The following subscription rules will go into place:

  • When submitting an idea, the user will become a subscriber to that campaign
  • When commenting on an idea, the user will become a follower of that idea
  • When added as a co-submitter, the user will become a follower of that idea and a subscriber of that campaign
  • When submitting an idea on behalf of another member, the user will become a follower of that idea and a subscriber of that campaign

It's important to note that these auto-subscription rules will not override manually unsubscribing to these notifications. If a user gets auto enrolled and manually unsubscribes, taking another action will not re-subscribe them to those notifications.
