This IdeaScale Whiteboard will be our collaborative space for developing an Idea Profile. We'll use its features to define and elaborate on the key components of the idea, as depicted in the image.


Brainstorming Objectives:

  • To comprehensively define and analyze a specific idea.
  • To clearly articulate the Problem Statement, Value Proposition, Target Market, and Competitive Advantage.
  • To identify the Next Steps required for further development.
  • To use the whiteboard to visually structure and document the idea profile.


Timing: 75 minutes

Tips for Facilitators


Introduction (15 minutes)

  • Welcome participants and introduce the concept of an Idea Profile.
  • Explain the key components of the Idea Profile, as shown in the image:
    • Problem Statement: Define the key problem your customers face. Focus on a specific issue they need solved or a pain point they want to overcome.
    • Value Proposition: Describe the unique benefits your product or service provides. Explain how it specifically solves the customer's problem or improves their experience.
    • Target Market: Identify the specific group of people or businesses that will benefit most from your product. Include basic details like their needs, demographics, or relevant characteristics.
    • Competitive Advantage: Highlight what makes your product or service stand out from competitors. Focus on features, benefits, or unique qualities that give you an edge.
    • Next Steps: Define the immediate actions or tasks that need to be taken to move the idea forward.
  • Explain how to use digital sticky notes and the whiteboard's organizational features to populate each section of the Idea Profile.
  • Clearly state the idea that will be profiled during the session.

Brainstorming Instructions (50 minutes)

  • Activity 1: Problem Statement and Value Proposition (20 minutes):
    • Begin by focusing on the Problem Statement. Guide participants to clearly define the customer's pain point and the need the idea addresses.
    • Then, move on to the Value Proposition. Facilitate a discussion on the unique benefits the idea offers and how it solves the identified problem.
    • Use digital sticky notes to capture the information in the respective sections on the whiteboard.
  • Activity 2: Target Market and Competitive Advantage (20 minutes):
    • Shift the focus to defining the Target Market. Encourage participants to identify the specific customer group that would benefit most from the idea.
    • Next, explore the Competitive Advantage. Discuss what makes the idea unique and how it stands out from existing solutions.
    • Use digital sticky notes to capture information in the respective sections on the whiteboard.
  • Activity 3: Next Steps (10 minutes):
    • Conclude by defining the Next Steps. Facilitate a discussion to determine the immediate actions needed to move the idea forward.
    • Capture these action items as sticky notes or a list in the "Next Steps" section of the whiteboard.


 

Adjourn (10 minutes)

  • Summarize the key components of the Idea Profile, highlighting the key outputs from each section.
  • Discuss the importance of the Idea Profile for further development and decision-making.
  • Capture the final Idea Profile on the whiteboard and distribute it to participants.
  • Thank participants for their contributions.
