Follow an Idea

A member follows an idea by selecting the star icon in the idea's More section and can unfollow by selecting the star again. Once followed, updates on that idea always arrive in real-time, regardless of the member's Digest email notification setting.

Role Permissions

1. Member: Follows or unfollows an idea via the star icon, views followed ideas from the Profile, and receives real-time email notifications for comments and stage changes on followed ideas.
2. Co-submitter: Automatically becomes a follower of an idea when added as a Co-submitter.

How to Follow an Idea

A member selects the star icon located below the idea details, in the More section, to follow an idea. A confirmation message appears indicating that the idea has been successfully followed. The idea can be unfollowed at any time by selecting the star icon again.

Viewing Followed Ideas

All ideas a member is following can be accessed under Profile >> My Ideas >> Following tab.

Followed ideas can also be found under Profile >> About >> Followed.

Notification Behavior

Following an idea generates an email notification whenever a new comment is added or the idea progresses to a different stage. See Exceptions below for how this interacts with the member's Digest email notification setting.

Automatic Following

A member becomes a follower of an idea automatically in the following scenarios:

• The member submits the idea.
• The member comments on the idea.
• The member is added as a Co-submitter of the idea.
• An Administrator submits the idea on behalf of the member.

Exceptions

1. Digest Email Setting Override: Regardless of whether a member's Digest email notification setting is weekly, daily, or realtime, a followed idea always triggers an instant, real-time notification for comments and stage changes.
2. Automatic Following: A member becomes a follower of an idea automatically when they submit the idea, comment on the idea, are added as a Co-submitter of the idea, or when a Community Administrator submits the idea on the member's behalf.

How does a member unfollow an idea?

By selecting the Unfollow (Star) icon again on the idea page.

Will a member always receive an instant notification for a followed idea, even if their Digest setting is set to weekly?

Yes. Following an idea overrides the Digest email notification setting for that idea, so real-time notifications for comments and stage changes are always sent instantly.

Can a member follow an idea without clicking the star icon?

Yes, in certain cases. A member becomes an automatic follower of an idea when they submit it, comment on it, are added as a Co-submitter, or when a Community administrator submits it on their behalf.

Where can a member see all the ideas they're following?

Under Profile >> My Ideas >> Following tab, or under Profile >> About >> Followed.
