An IdeaScale Whiteboard facilitator guide for Business Model Canvas Brainstorm
This IdeaScale Whiteboard will be our collaborative workspace for constructing and analyzing the Business Model Canvas. We'll use its features to visually represent each component and facilitate discussion.
Brainstorming Objectives:
- To visually map out the key components of a business model.
- To identify potential opportunities and challenges within each component.
- To foster a shared understanding of the business model among stakeholders.
- To use the whiteboard to create and refine the Business Model Canvas.
Timing: 90 minutes
Brainstorming Instructions - 60 minutes
Introduction (15 minutes)
- Welcome participants and introduce the Business Model Canvas framework.
- Briefly explain each of the nine building blocks: Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Channels, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Activities, Key Resources, Key Partnerships, and Cost Structure.
- Emphasize the interconnectedness of the building blocks.
- Explain how to use the digital sticky notes on the whiteboard to fill in each section of the canvas.
- Set the context for the specific business or project being analyzed.
Brainstorming Instructions (60 minutes)
- Activity 1: Individual Brainstorming (30 minutes)

- Divide the participants into smaller groups, or assign each group 2-3 sections of the canvas.

- Instruct each group to individually brainstorm ideas for their assigned building blocks, using digital sticky notes.
- Encourage participants to be specific and concise, focusing on key elements.
- Activity 2: Group Sharing and Canvas Construction (20 minutes)

- Have each group share their ideas for their assigned building blocks.
- Facilitate a discussion to clarify ideas and identify common themes.
- As ideas are shared, populate the Business Model Canvas on the whiteboard, organizing the sticky notes within the appropriate building blocks.
- Activity 3: Interconnections and Analysis (10 minutes)

- Identify potential synergies and conflicts within the business model.
- Explore potential opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Adjourn (15 minutes)
- Summarize the key insights and findings from the Business Model Canvas analysis.

- Capture the final Business Model Canvas on the whiteboard.
- Thank participants for their contributions.
