Best Practices for Creating a Campaign

Thought process while creating a campaign

Campaigns are the foundation of your innovation community. Through campaigns you share information with your community about what kind of ideas you want, members submit ideas, and ideas are moderated through different stages of your workflow funnel.

Below are some of the essential aspects and their related settings to keep in mind when creating a campaign.

  1. Purpose of creating the campaign: The community admin should lay out the purpose or reasons for creating the campaign by using our various settings like Question / Challenge Statement, Campaign Brief to clearly define the motive of the campaign. These two sections can be edited and customized using the rich text editor to make them look more catchy to the users.

The other three settings that can be used to voice out the importance of the campaign are Campaign Banner, Campaign Logo, and Campaign Featured image.

Note: These can be updated using Edit mode from the front-end campaign page

  2. Audience for the campaign: Deciding and setting up the right audience for the campaign is very crucial as we create a campaign. The creator of the campaign should decide if the campaign should be open to all the users or a few members of the community depending on the objective of the campaign that needs to achieve.

Campaign setting offers a section named Basic Settings >> Privacy and Access where we can control and set up the right audience for the campaign.

  3. Setting up the right behaviors and permission for the campaign: The campaign should be set up in such a manner wherein the campaign creator decides what kind of rights should be given to the members allowed to participate in the campaign. Rights like to vote, comment, edit an idea or adding attachments to their ideas. Enabling or disabling these at the start of the campaign will give uniformity to the flow of the ideas that has been received in the campaign.

  4. Customizing the Idea Submission form for the campaign: The idea submission form needs to be designed in such a format that the member trying to submit the ideas can add details seamlessly and should have a flow of the questions that needs to be answered. The campaign creator would need to add in all the idea submission elements before the launch of the campaign so that all the ideas will be updated with the same details. Adding in any idea submission elements later is possible however, in that case, few ideas will not have the relevant details you are expecting to collect in the idea.

  5. Deciding on the workflow for the campaign: The workflow of the campaign has to be decided well in advance so that the stages are set up as per the campaign requirements. Changing the funnel at a later time will cause issues with other campaigns sharing the workflow.

  6. Campaign launch and end dates: The campaign owner or the administrator should use the Campaign Email Invite to announce the launch of the campaign and notify the members who can access the campaign. This is a crucial step so that members' participation is maximum in the campaign. Setting an end date shows up a countdown timer in the About tab of the campaign alerting the members of the closing of the campaign.
