| @Mentions is a participation feature that lets a member reference another member by username inside ideas, comments, and stage-specific fields, notifying the referenced member by email and in-app notification. |
@Mentions must be enabled by a Workspace Administrator before members can use it. Enabling the feature does not change any existing privacy or security settings for the community.
Roles Affected
- Workspace Administrator: Enables the Username setup required setting that governs whether username creation and @Mentions are available in the community, and enables the Allow members/persons to change username setting for SSO communities.
- Member: Sets and edits a personal username, uses @Mentions to reference other members across comments, idea submissions, and stage-specific fields, and receives email and in-app notifications when mentioned.

Username Setup
On successful login to a Workspace, a new member is prompted to set a profile username. The username must be between 6 and 40 characters and may use only lowercase letters (a-z), numbers, and periods, in any combination.
Username creation and @Mentions are only available in communities where the Workspace Administrator has enabled the Username setup required setting, found under Workspace Homepage >> Navigation Panel >> Settings >> Workspace Info >> Miscellaneous.

How @Mention Work
@Mentions function in line with commonly accepted internet standards. A member typing @"username" is shown an auto-complete list of matching usernames to select from. The selected member receives an email pointing to the referenced content.
Curse filtering also applies to @Mentions, covering cases where an inappropriate term is used as a username.
Where @Mention Work
@Mentions are available in several locations throughout the platform.
Idea Comments: A member can use @Mentions while commenting on an idea.
Idea Submission: @Mentions can also be used while submitting an idea, within the description field.
Stage-Specific Comments: @Mentions are available to members with access to a Stage-specific comments tab — for example, the Build Stage, Review Stage, Refine Stage, and Assessment Stage.
Refine Stage Answer Fields: @Mentions are also available within Refine stage answer fields.
Notifications
A notification email is sent to a member when they are mentioned in the community. The email notification is sent only if the Receive mention email setting is enabled under Profile >> Settings >> Notification settings.
In addition to the email, an in-app notification is delivered in two places:

Editing the Username
Non-SSO Communities
In a non-SSO community, a member can edit or change their username at any time from Profile >> Settings >> Profile information >> Username.
SSO Communities
In an SSO community, a member can edit or change their username from the Profile only if the Workspace Administrator has enabled the Allow members/persons to change username setting, found under Settings >> Security >> Authentication >> Single Signon (under the Settings icon).
If the Enable Username Prompt setting is disabled, a new member is never asked to create a username. The system automatically generates a username if one is not provided by the Identity Provider (IDP) or if the provided username is not valid. If a member already has a valid username and the one supplied by the IDP is invalid, the existing valid username is retained.
SSO communities can pass usernames via ADFS as a SAML attribute mapped to the username field. In SSO communities, a member is asked to set a username only if the Enable Username Prompt setting is enabled in the SSO General Settings.

Exceptions
- Private Campaign Access: If the mentioned member does not have access to the private campaign where the mention occurs, no @mention notification is sent to them.
- SSO Community, Username Change Disabled: If the Allow members/persons to change username setting is not enabled, the username field is greyed out in Personal settings and cannot be edited by the member. It retains the one supplied by the Identity Provider.
- Enable Username Prompt Disabled: If this setting is disabled, a username cannot be set.
