What is Video and Image Support?
Video and Image Support refers to the video, audio, and image file types, embedding platforms, and technical specifications IdeaScale supports for content added to a community, or attached to an idea or comment.

Video, audio, and image files can be added in several places across a community, including when submitting an idea or a comment. This article covers the supported file types, embedding platforms, and technical limits that apply to this content.


Role Permissions

  1. Member: Can upload or embed a supported video, audio, or image file when submitting an idea or comment.

IdeaScale supports the following video, audio, and image file types for upload.

File Preview Support

The following file types can be previewed directly, without downloading:

Video Embedding

Supported Platforms

Video hosted on the following platforms can be embedded using a URL link:

  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • Qumu
  • Vidyard
  • Kaltura
  • Brightcove
  • Vbrick
  • Intrado
  • MS Stream

Videos should be uploaded to one of these platforms first, then the video's URL can be entered wherever the video needs to appear.


Embedding a Video

The video URL is copied from the hosting platform and entered into the video embed tool within the rich text editor, as shown below.

File Restrictions

  1. File Size: Individual files cannot exceed 25MB. Smaller files load faster.
  2. Color Mode: Uploaded images must be saved in RGB color mode. RGB is intended for electronic media (monitors, TVs, phones) and the web, while CMYK is intended for print media; an image saved in CMYK may display with altered color or texture in the web view.
  3. Encrypted Files: Encrypted files cannot be uploaded, due to security risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does an uploaded image change color or texture in the web view?

This happens when the image was saved in CMYK color mode, which is intended for print media. Images should be saved in RGB color mode, which is intended for electronic media and the web, to preserve accurate color and texture.

Is there a file size limit for uploads?

Yes. Individual files cannot exceed 25MB. Smaller files load faster.

Can encrypted files be uploaded?
