[Outcomes](https://help.ideascale.com/reporting?hsLang=en#outcomes) # Outcomes - Strategic Outcomes ## Setup and details about Strategic Outcomes ***Path: Workspace Homepage \>\> Navigation Panel \>\> Reporting \>\> Outcomes*** | **What are Strategic Outcomes?** | | --- | | Strategic Outcomes are the specific, measurable targets an organization works toward under each Strategic Theme. | Where a Theme might be "Operational Efficiency," a Strategic Outcome would be something like "Reduce processing time by 20% by end of FY2026." Strategic Outcomes are defined with a Baseline (the current starting point), a Target (what success looks like), and an Actual (the measured result once the initiative matures). A Strategic Outcome's **Direction** can be set to **Increase**, **Decrease**, or **Maintain**, depending on the expected outcome. Strategic Outcomes provide the measurable link between high-level strategy and day-to-day innovation activity happening in IdeaScale campaigns, serving as the primary source of data for leadership dashboards and quarterly reporting. --- ### Role Permissions - **Workspace Administrator:** Can create, edit, and manage Strategic Outcomes, and can be selected as a Reminder Recipient to receive Update Reminder emails for a Strategic Outcome. Assigning a Strategic Outcome to a campaign is not permitted unless the Workspace Administrator also holds Community Administrator or Campaign Administrator permissions. - **Community Administrator, Campaign & Custom Administrator:** Do not have access to Outcomes dashboard or view and assign Strategic Outcomes in Campaigns. - **Community & Campaign Moderator:** Can only assign existing Strategic Outcome to an idea on the Idea details page & Idea Portfolio. - **Custom field Moderator:** Can only assign an existing Strategic Outcomes to the ideas with their custom field only, on the Idea details page & Idea Portfolio. - **Idea Owners:** Can assign an existing Strategic Outcomes to their owned ideas only, on the Idea details page & Idea Portfolio. Outcome Name:** The desired name for the Strategic Outcome. **2. Theme (Optional):** Links the Outcome with a pre-created Theme from the dropdown. **3. Measurement Type:** Qualitative or Quantitative **4. Metric Name (Optional):** A metric name for the outcome. **5. Metric Type:** Count, Time, Percentage, Cost, or Score. **6. Unit:** The metric unit (e.g., ideas, percentage, time). **7. Direction:** Increase, Decrease, or Maintain, depending on the nature of the goal — for example, increasing production, decreasing processing time, or maintaining quality. **8. Baseline (Optional):** A starting numeric value for the outcome. **9. Target:** The target numeric value for the outcome. **10. Target Date:** The date by which the outcome must be achieved: Q1, Q2, H1, Q3, Q4, H2, or Year (e.g., 2026). **11. Start Date (Optional):** Schedule between specific date or fiscal year to activate the Strategic Outcome. It is saved as a draft until then. **12. Owners:** Selected from the dropdown list; owners are the face of the outcome and do not hold a functional role in the community. **13. Update Reminders:** Enabling this opens the additional selections below. - Reminder recipients: Selected from the dropdown list of Workspace Admins who should receive reminder emails. - Reminder Frequency: Weekly, Monthly, or Quarterly. - Weekly: day of week and time (UTC). - Monthly: day of month and time (UTC). - Quarterly: month in the quarter (1st, 2nd, or 3rd), day of month, and time (UTC). ![outcome reminder](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/outcome%20reminder.png?width=670&height=481&name=outcome%20reminder.png) Below is the sample email notification received by the recipient administrator. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-04-2026-08-56-33-8989-AM.png?width=2048&height=1116&name=undefined-Nov-04-2026-08-56-33-8989-AM.png) **Note:** For Monthly and Quarterly reminders, if the 29th, 30th, or 31st is selected and doesn't exist for the given month, the reminder is sent on the last day of that month. The created Outcome is saved as a Draft if no Start date is set or until the scheduled start date. It can be found by filtering the Statuses to Draft. Workspace admin can activate the Strategic Outcome if needed by clicking the **Activate Outcome** button. ![activate outcome](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/activate%20outcome.gif?width=670&height=333&name=activate%20outcome.gif) Once activated, an outcome can be viewed, filtered, edited, checked in, closed, archived or deleted on from the Strategic Outcomes section by the Workspace administrator. ***Help Article for Outcomes Dashboard***  --- ### Campaign Linking Once a Strategic Outcome has been created, it can be associated with a campaign by navigating to **Basic Information \>\> Link to Theme & Outcomes \>\> Outcomes** within the campaign's edit settings, or a new Strategic Outcome can be created using the **+ Create Outcome** button beside the dropdown. This action can be performed by a Community Administrator or a Campaign Administrator. ***Help article on Campaign management. As Tactical Outcomes are linked to an idea and that idea moves through the implementation stage — marked by **Report as Implemented** — the Strategic Outcome becomes eligible for check-ins. The full breakdown of the Strategic Outcomes Tab, its cards, filters, and check-in/history side drawer is covered in the Outcomes Dashboard article. ***Help Article on Outcomes Dashboard (TO BE LINKED)*** --- ### Frequently Asked Questions **Can a Strategic Outcome be created without linking it to a Theme or a campaign?**Yes. Both Theme and campaign linking are optional. A Strategic Outcome can be created directly from the Manage Outcomes board without any campaign context, and a Theme can be added from the dropdown at any time. **Do Outcome Owners have any administrative control over a Strategic Outcome?**No. Owners are the face of the outcome and do not hold a functional role in the comm**unity.** **What happens if Update Reminders is left disabled when creating an outcome?**No reminder emails are sent. Reminder Recipients, Reminder Frequency, and the associated timing fields only take effect once Update Reminders has been enabled. **Who can link a Strategic Outcome to a campaign?**A Community Administrator or a Campaign Administrator who is also a Workspace administrator, from within the campaign's Basic Information \>\> Link to Theme & Outcomes settings. **Where can an existing Strategic Outcome be viewed or edited after creation?**From the Manage Outcomes board under Outcomes Dashboard, where outcomes can be viewed, filtered, edited, and checked in on. **Can a Baseline be left blank when creating a Strategic Outcome?**Yes.
