Theme:** Displays the Theme's name, the amount of time elapsed since it was last modified (shown in days, weeks, months, or years), and running counts of the number of campaigns, outcomes, and ideas currently associated with the Theme. **2. Strategic Outcomes:** Lists every Strategic Outcome associated with the Theme, along with each outcome's Status, Baseline, Actual, Target, Direction, Target Date, the number of ideas contributing to it, and its Goal Owners. Selecting a Goal Owner displays that person's name and avatar. The full description of each of these fields is covered in the Strategic Outcomes Tab section below. **3. Theme Detail:** Displays the total number of ideas associated with the Theme at the bottom of the card. Selecting this count will show the Theme's name, associated Outcomes count, and the Hierarchy & Campaigns Tab. #### Hierarchy tab It shows the related list of Strategic Outcomes with their Actual and Target, Status, Target date, and number of associated ideas. Each Strategic Outcome can further be expanded to see the details. An Archived label appears beside the Theme title. **Delete:** Removes the theme permanently. **Note:** Deleting a Theme cannot be undone. Archive is available as a reversible alternative when a Theme may need to be reinstated later. #### Layout Strategic Outcomes can be displayed in either of two layouts: Grid or Compact. An Administrator can switch between the two views using the switch located on the right side of the tab. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-54-33-5869-AM.png?width=670&height=371&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-54-33-5869-AM.png) #### Card Each Card shows the following details: 1. **Theme Name:** The name of the associated Theme, if any. 2. **Count:** Count of associated Campaigns, Outcomes & Ideas. 3. **Status:** The statuses of each associated outcomes are displayed at the bottom of the card - Pending (no check-in logged yet), On Track, At Risk, Off Track or Achieved & Missed (when closed) 4. **Last Activity:** The last theme activity time in hours, days, months, or years. All the associated Outcomes for each Theme are displayed under it with the following details: 1. **Outcome Name:** The name given to the Strategic Outcome. 2. **Status:** The outcome's current status based on its check-in history — Pending (no check-in logged yet), On Track, At Risk, Off Track or Achieved & Missed (when closed) 3. **Idea Count:** The number of ideas associated with the Strategic Outcome. 4. **Target percentage and progress bar:** Percentage of target achieved to date, represented with a progress bar. 5. **Baseline:** The starting value recorded for the outcome before any progress was made. 6. **Actual:** The current value achieved to date, based on the most recent check-in. 7. **Target:** The value the outcome is working toward. 8. **Direction:** The direction set for the outcome — Increase, Decrease, or Maintain — depending on whether progress means the metric should go up, go down, or stay the same. 9. **Target period:** The time period by which the outcome should be met — a Year (e.g., 2025, 2026), a Half Year (H1 or H2), or a Quarter (Q1 through Q4). 10. **Goal Owners:** The number of Goal Owners assigned to the outcome; selecting the count displays each owner's name and avatar. 11. **Last Activity/ Closed date:** The last activity time in hours, days, months, or years. In case the Outcome is closed, it will show the closed date instead of Last Activity. #### Theme Drill-down ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-54-33-1200-AM.png?width=670&height=309&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-54-33-1200-AM.png) Clicking on the Theme name opens the theme details in the side drawer, showing the following details: 1. **Theme Name:** Name of the Theme 2. **Count:** Count of associated Outcomes & Ideas. 3. **Theme Description:** Description of the Theme 4. **Hierarchy Tab**: Strategic outcomes within the Theme shown in Ascending order of its progress. 5. **Campaigns:** Names of the campaigns associated with the Theme. 6. **+ Add Outcome:** Allows to create a new outcome within the Theme. 7. **Edit:** Allows to edit the Theme name & description. 8. **Archive:** Allows to archive the Theme 9. **Delete:** Allows deleting the Theme. [***Help Article for Themes***](https://help.ideascale.com/strategic-themes?hsLang=en) --- ### Strategic Outcomes Tab An Administrator can move to the Strategic Outcomes Tab from the Themes Tab using the tab switch. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-52-19-0088-AM.png?width=670&height=58&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-52-19-0088-AM.png) The Strategic Outcomes Tab displays all created Outcomes in a grid or compact card format, with the following features. #### Cards Selecting a Strategic Outcome card opens a side drawer with the following sections, allowing further drill-down into that outcome's details. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-23-8373-AM.png?width=670&height=297&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-23-8373-AM.png) #### Strategic Outcome Details The Strategic Outcome Details section of the side drawer displays the outcome's name and current Status, along with its Baseline (the starting value), Actual (the value achieved to date), Target (the value being worked toward), Direction (whether the goal is to Increase, Decrease, or Maintain the metric), Start Date, Target Date (the deadline by which the outcome should be met) Owners & Last activity. The achieved value is also shown both as a raw number and as a percentage of the Target, providing a quick read on overall progress. All the Check-in History & Contributing Ideas (Ideas associated with the Strategic Outcomes on Idea details page) are shown in 2 tabs. #### Edit Selecting Edit opens the Strategic Outcome's setup fields for editing, allowing values entered at creation to be revised as circumstances change, without affecting previously logged check-in history. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-23-3304-AM.png?width=670&height=379&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-23-3304-AM.png) #### Check-in Selecting Check-in opens a module for logging a new check-in against the Strategic Outcome, with the following fields: **1. Language:** Choose the language to save the check-in in. **2. As of Date:** The date the check-in reflects, selected from a date picker. Future dates cannot be selected. **3. Actual Value:** The current numeric value being reported for the outcome. **4. Status:** The outcome's status as of this check-in — On Track, At Risk, or Off Track. **5. Notes:** An optional field for adding additional context about the value entered. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-22-3088-AM.png?width=670&height=455&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-22-3088-AM.png) #### Close Selecting Close opens a module for ending the Strategic Outcome, with the following fields: 1. **How did this outcome end?:** Select Achieved or Missed to indicated if the target was met or missed. 2. **Closing Notes:** An optional field for adding additional context about the outcome closing. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-21-8573-AM.png?width=670&height=320&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-21-8573-AM.png) Once closed, the Strategic Outcome will appear with Achieved or Missed status depending on the closing status selected. It will retain all the history along with contributing ideas. The side drawer details will show the status (Achieved or Missed), Closed date, Closing notes and an option to Reopen the outcome. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-24-3447-AM.png?width=670&height=420&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-24-3447-AM.png) Workspace administrators can reopen a closed outcome by clicking on the Reopen option. #### Archive Once the purpose of a Strategic Outcome is achieved, Workspace administrator may choose to archive it. Archiving it will result in the following actions: 1. The associated Theme will be disassociated from the Strategic Outcome. 2. The Contributing Ideas connection will be removed from the Strategic Outcome. 3. The Strategic Outcome will be hidden from active reporting. 4. The tracking on the Strategic Outcome will be stopped. The archived Strategic Outcome will only be visible under the **Show Archived** tab. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-21-4153-AM.png?width=670&height=299&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-21-4153-AM.png) **Note:** The Strategic Outcome will still retain all its previous data. #### Contributing Ideas Contributing Ideas are the ideas associated with a particular Strategic Outcome, accessible from within the side drawer. They can be filtered by idea status: **1. Open:** Displays ideas currently in a stage that has not been assigned a "Reported as" label. **2. Selected:** Displays ideas that have been assigned the Selected label. **3. Implemented:** Displays ideas that have been assigned the Implemented label. **4. In Reserve:** Displays ideas that have been assigned the In Reserve label, meaning they are sitting in the reserve stage. Each contributing idea can further be drilled down to show the idea's number, title, description, campaign name, community name, and its associated Tactical Outcome details — including the Tactical Outcome's name, Baseline, Target, Actual, progress bar, percentage of progress and Tactical Outcome’s Check-in history.. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-21-1981-AM.jpeg?width=670&height=279&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-21-1981-AM.jpeg) [***Help Article for Tactical Outcomes***](https://help.ideascale.com/tactical-outcomes?hsLang=en) #### Check-In History The Check-In History section shows a running log of every check-in logged against the Strategic Outcome. Each entry includes: - The date the check-in was logged. - The status entered at the time of the check-in — On Track, At Risk, or Off Track. - The value entered during the check-in. - The percentage of progress made toward the Target as of that check-in, shown visually with a progress bar. - The name and avatar of the person who logged the check-in. ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-22-8876-AM.png?width=670&height=307&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-04-57-22-8876-AM.png) Once check-ins begin, the dashboard aggregates Targeted and Actual impact upward into the Strategic Outcome, giving leadership a live view of how innovation activity contributes to each goal. For example, if a target is set to reduce costs by 15%, the dashboard shows both the projected contribution (Targeted) and, once verified, the confirmed contribution (Actual) from every connected idea. Communities:** By default, the Dashboard displays Themes or Strategic Outcomes (depending on the selected tab) for every community. Campaigns:** By default, the Dashboard displays Themes or Strategic Outcomes (depending on the selected tab) for every campaign within the selected communities. Fiscal Years:** By default, the Dashboard displays Themes or Strategic Outcomes (depending on the selected tab) for every fiscal year. Show Archived:** It shows all the archived Themes/Strategic Outcomes. **5. All Statuses:** On the Strategic Outcomes Tab, outcomes can be additionally filtered by All statuses: All, Pending, On Track, At Risk, Off Track, Achieved, Missed or Draft. ![Screenshot 2026-11-06 at 10.02.13 am](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-11-06%20at%2010.02.13%20am.png?width=670&height=283&name=Screenshot%202026-11-06%20at%2010.02.13%20am.png) --- ### Configure Fiscal Cycles ![](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/undefined-Nov-06-2026-05-07-27-0362-AM.png?width=670&height=288&name=undefined-Nov-06-2026-05-07-27-0362-AM.png) A Workspace Administrator can change this setting by selecting the Configure Fiscal Cycles button on the right, which navigates to **Settings \>\> Workspace \>\> Workspace Configuration \>\> Outcome Cycle Settings**. Enabling the **Use fiscal year settings** switch sets a custom start month for the outcomes cycle, apart from the default calendar year. Select the month from the dropdown, and the Fiscal year preview section will update automatically. ![Screenshot 2026-11-06 at 10.40.16 am](https://help.ideascale.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-11-06%20at%2010.40.16%20am.png?width=670&height=565&name=Screenshot%202026-11-06%20at%2010.40.16%20am.png) Upon saving, the system will open up a modal to confirm the cycle changes for existing outcomes along with a preview of how they will be affected. Workspace admin can choose between 2 options - Fiscal under Original cycles & Re-baseline all to new cycles. **Fiscal under Original cycles:** Active outcomes keep their existing labels and dates until they close. New cycles only apply to newly created outcomes. This is the default and recommended option. This configuration ensures that active outcomes conclude according to their initial scheduling, which is ideal for maintaining consistency with original project timelines. **Re-baseline all to new cycles:** Under this option, active and in-progress outcomes adopt the newly established cycle labels and dates, transitioning to the closest corresponding period in the updated fiscal hierarchy. Although their current progress is carried over, their deadlines will shift. Only past or current dates can be selected from the date picker when logging a check-in against a Strategic Outcome or Tactical Outcome. **Fiscal cycle change:** The original fiscal year cycle during the outcome’s creation will be maintained for closed outcomes in case of fiscal cycle change. --- ### Frequently Asked Questions **Does editing a Strategic Outcome's Target or Baseline change its past check-in history?** No. Editing a Strategic Outcome's setup fields, including its Target or Baseline, does not affect check-ins that were already logged. Entries in the History section retain the values that were current at the time each check-in was made though it does change the metric unit. **What happens to a Strategic Outcome when its Strategic Theme is archived?** Archiving a Strategic Theme disassociates it from its linked campaigns and Strategic Outcomes and removes it from the active Themes Tab view. The Theme carries an Archived label until it is restored. **Why does a Strategic Outcome show a Pending status?** Pending indicates that no check-in has yet been logged for that specific Strategic Outcome. Each outcome's status is tracked independently, so logging a check-in for one outcome has no effect on the status of any other outcome. **Can a deleted Strategic Theme be recovered?** No. Delete permanently removes the Theme and cannot be reversed. Archive should be used instead of Delete when a Theme might need to be reinstated later. **Can a Strategic Outcome be linked to more than one Strategic Theme?** No. Each Strategic Outcome can be linked to only a single Strategic Theme at a time, shown as its Theme Name on the Outcomes Card. --- **Related Articles** -
