Language Settings

Language Settings enable a Workspace Administrator to activate and manage the languages supported across a workspace, allowing members to submit ideas and comments in their preferred language. Once languages are enabled at the workspace level, a Community Administrator can tailor which of those languages are made available within a specific community.

Role Permissions

1. Workspace Administrator: Specifies which languages the workspace supports, runs Batch Translation, and assigns Translation Moderators for the Workspace from Workspace Member Management.
2. Community Administrator: Tailors which of the workspace's supported languages are made available within a specific community, and assigns Translation Moderators for the Community.
3. Translation Moderator: Reviews and verifies machine-translated ideas and comments, and provides translations for admin-generated content such as custom field questions and community and campaign titles and descriptions, from the Translation Moderation dashboard. Does not have access to moderation of ideas, comments, or members.

Supported Languages

A Workspace Administrator specifies which languages the workspace supports by selecting them from the available language list in Workspace Info >> General Info. Once specified, a member can select a preferred language from the idea submission form when submitting an idea or a comment. IdeaScale supports 40 languages, two of which are right-to-left languages, as shown below.

Batch Translation

The Batch Translation tool uses machine translation to translate existing content into each supported language. Batch Translation is run by selecting a supported language as the Target language, and this step is repeated for every supported language that needs to be translated.

Once Batch Translation is complete, an email confirmation is sent to the community owner.

Translation Moderators

An Administrator can add an additional layer of quality control over automated translations by assigning Translation Moderators. A Translation Moderator reviews and verifies machine-translated ideas and comments, and provides translations for admin-generated content such as custom field questions and community and campaign titles and descriptions, from the Translation Moderation dashboard.

A Translation Moderator is assigned from Workspace Member Management by selecting the member and using the action button to assign the Translation Moderator role.

Exceptions

1. Batch Translation Reprocessing: Ideas and comments that have already been translated are not processed again during Batch Translation.
2. Translation Moderator Assignment Scope: Translation Moderator assignment is not inherited between Workspace and Community. Translation Moderators must be assigned separately at the Workspace level and at the Community level.
3. Translation Moderator Self-Assignment: An Administrator cannot assign themselves as a Translation Moderator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many languages does IdeaScale support?

IdeaScale supports 40 languages, including 2 right-to-left languages: Arabic and Hebrew.

Does enabling a language at the workspace level make it available in every community?

Not automatically. Enabling a language in Workspace Info makes it available for the workspace, after which a Community Administrator selects which of those languages to make available within a specific community.

Does assigning a Translation Moderator at the Workspace level also assign that member as a Translation Moderator for a Community?

No. Translation Moderator assignment is not inherited between Workspace and Community, so the role must be assigned separately at each level.

Can a Translation Moderator moderate ideas, comments, or members?

No. A Translation Moderator can only verify and input translations and does not have access to idea, comment, or member moderation.
