Import Votes

Import Votes is used to apply a batch of votes to existing ideas and comments at once, rather than requiring members to cast each vote individually. The feature is accessed from the Votes option within Import Data and includes a Generate Template option to ensure the uploaded file matches the required format.

Role Permissions

1. Community Administrator: Accesses Import Data and uses the Import Votes feature to generate a template, upload a vote file, and configure notification settings for the import.
2. Custom Administrator: Access to the Import Votes feature depends upon for these settings enabled for them. 

Generating the Import Template

Selecting Generate Template is recommended before every upload, as it produces a spreadsheet already formatted with the correct columns required for a successful import.

Uploading the Vote File

The vote file is uploaded and configured using the following fields:

1. File to Upload: The Excel file to be uploaded, either browsed from the computer or dragged and dropped into the upload area.

2. Disable Notifications: Switch that stops email notifications from being sent to members whose ideas or comments receive imported votes.

Excel File Format Requirements

The uploaded Excel file must follow this format:

1. Worksheet: The vote data to be uploaded must be in the first tab (worksheet) of the Excel file.
2. Column 1 — URL: The URL of the idea or comment the vote applies to. Idea and comment URLs are obtained by exporting the idea and comment data first.
3. Column 2 — Email Address: The email address of the community member casting the vote.
4. Column 3 — Vote: The vote value, entered as either of the following:
   1. 1: Up Vote (I agree)
   2. -1: Down Vote (I disagree)

Exceptions

1. Malicious Content Detected: If the uploaded file contains malicious content, a virus, or malware, the system displays an error and the entire import fails.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can votes be imported for both ideas and comments in the same file?

Yes. Since each row's URL column can point to either an idea or a comment, a single uploaded file can contain votes for both.

Will members receive an email notification when their idea or comment votes are imported?

This depends on the Disable Notifications switch. If enabled, members whose ideas or comments receive imported votes do not receive an email notification. If left disabled, standard notification emails are sent.

Where can the Idea and Comment URLs needed for the import file be obtained?

The Idea and Comment URLs are obtained by exporting the idea and comment data before building the import file.

What happens if the uploaded file contains malicious content?

The upload fails and an error is displayed. See Exceptions above.
