What is Export Idea Votes?
---
Export Idea Votes is a reporting feature that allows a Community Administrator to download a community's idea vote and comment vote data as an Excel or CSV file, filtered by campaign and by date range.
Export Idea Votes generates a downloadable file containing every vote cast on ideas and every vote cast on comments within a community. The data can be narrowed to a specific campaign and time period before export, and covers both idea-level and comment-level voting activity in a single file.
Role Permissions
- Community Administrator: Can access Export Data and export idea vote and comment vote data for the community.
Export Options
Before exporting, the Community Administrator can narrow the data included in the file using the following filters.
Output Format
The Community Administrator selects the file format for the export:
- Microsoft Excel Sheet (.xls): Exports the data as an Excel spreadsheet.
- XML (RSS 2.0): Exports the data as an XML feed.

Date
The Community Administrator specifies a Start Date and an End Date to export data for a limited period. See Exceptions below for what happens when this field is left blank.
Timezone
The Community Administrator selects a preferred timezone for viewing the exported data, or retains the community's default timezone.
Campaign
The Community Administrator selects a single campaign, or All Campaigns, to determine which campaign's idea and comment vote data is included in the export. See Exceptions below for how the All Campaigns option handles Archived Campaigns.
Fields on Exported Excel Sheet
The exported file contains two sheets: one covering idea votes and one covering comment votes.
Idea Votes Sheet
The first sheet contains the following fields for each idea vote:
- Up/Down: Indicates whether the member voted for the idea (Up Vote) or against it (Downvote).
- Voter ID: The unique identification number IdeaScale generates for the member; this matches the member's identification number.
- Voter Name: The voter's profile name.
- Email Address: The voter's email address.
- Idea ID: The unique identifier the system uses for the idea.
- Idea Number: A consecutive number (unless ideas have been deleted) that members use to locate ideas through search; unlike Idea ID, it is not necessarily unique in sequence.
- Idea: The idea's title.
- Stage ID: Identifies the stage in which the idea currently resides.
- Stage Name: The name of the stage in which the idea currently resides.
- Idea URL: The URL of the idea.
- Timestamp: The date and time the member voted on the idea.
- Voter IP Address: The voter's internet network IP address.

Comment Votes Sheet
The second sheet contains the following fields for each comment vote:
- Up/Down: Indicates whether the member agreed with the comment (Up Vote) or disagreed (Downvote).
- Voter ID: The unique identification number IdeaScale generates for the member; this matches the member's identification number.
- Voter Name: The voter's profile name.
- Email Address: The voter's email address.
- Idea: The title of the idea the comment belongs to.
- Comment Summary: The text of the comment.
- Comment URL: The URL of the comment.
- Timestamp: The date and time the member voted on the comment.
Note: The Idea and Comment Summary columns display customized labels if the corresponding fields have been customized in the Idea Submission Form.
Exceptions
- Date Field Left Blank: If the Date field is left blank, the export includes all data from the beginning of the community's history through the current date.
- All Campaigns Selected: Selecting All Campaigns as the Campaign filter also includes idea vote and comment vote data from Archived Campaigns.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the export include votes from archived campaigns?
Only when All Campaigns is selected as the Campaign filter. Selecting a single campaign excludes Archived Campaigns from the export.
What happens if the Timezone field is not changed?
The export uses the community's default timezone unless the Community Administrator selects a different one.
Are idea votes and comment votes included in the same file?
Yes. The exported file contains two sheets — one for idea votes and one for comment votes — within a single Excel or XML file.
Why do the Idea or Comment Summary column names look different from what is shown here?
If the community's Idea Submission Form has customized the idea title or description field labels, those customized names appear in place of the default column names on export.
